Passed Her Police Prep Test!

Passed Her Police Prep Test!

I am 21 years old and a Police Foundations student at Mohawk College in Brantford.  I first started coming to CrossFit last September 2011 and it is by far one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I’m the type of person that needs someone to basically give me a workout and tell me what to do instead of having to sit around at the gym lifting weights and using different machines.  I’ve signed up and wasted hundreds of dollars on gym memberships, but never really saw any results.  So, I found CrossFit Stoney Creek and decided to give it a try knowing that in the Police Foundations program, you are required to complete the police PREP test (an obstacle course) and a 20 meter shuttle run (beep test) until stage 6.5 in order to graduate.  I knew that I couldn’t waste anymore time.  When I first came in to try CrossFit, I’m not going to lie; I was a little scared thinking that I wouldn’t be able to do it.  I came in and the class before was still doing the WOD (workout of the day), and honestly, I was about to turn around and walk out the door.  This was when both Lee and Lorna came up to me and basically said, “It’s not as bad as it looks!  Just try it out and see how you like it.”  So, I decided to give it a shot because really I had no other choice-it was now or never.  As I began the workout, Lee had modified it according to my fitness level at that time.  If I remember correctly, we were doing clean and jerks; remembering that I’ve watched the other members do them in the video, I was excited to finally have the chance to try them.  I sure did break a sweat and after that, I kept coming for more.  As I got stronger and felt better about myself, I really did see an improvement in my fitness level. Being a full time student as well as having two jobs, I was only able to come two to three times a week.  I did have my ups and my downs, but I kept coming back.  As time went by, I didn’t have to do the modified workouts anymore, and I kept up with most of the other members.  I always love a competition and the motivation and support I have from everyone just kept me going!  Each and every week I improved and even if it was just an extra 5 pounds added to my dead lift or push press, I could say that I was pretty proud of myself.  However, months kept passing by and my fitness test at school was just around the corner.  When test day came, I’m not gonna lie, I was really nervous and doubted myself thinking that I wasn’t ready.  When my professor called my name, all I could think about was Lorna telling me to get as aggressive and angry as I could and just do it!  Well, that’s what I did! I stuck with it and just kept going!  In the end, I finished the PREP component in 2:32 (time needed to pass is 2:42) and the 6.5 shuttle run!  I was probably the happiest person that day at school and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support and encouragement of Lee and Lorna!  I thank you both for everything! -Kristina Petrov
