My name’s Rylie , I’m 19 and absolutely hooked on crossfit! Not long ago, I was a competitive figure skater from the age of 10 on and over the years competed in Canada and Internationally in Spain, France and New York. As an athlete you have many goals, some of which I had accomplished, but the opportunity to continue to train for 2014 Olympics was no longer an option and I was forced to leave my sport. Not training or working out, not having a goal or feeling good about myself really had me thinking there wasn’t anything that could replace that feeling. I continued to try and find something to substitute and help me with that need for competition…that need to challenge myself and be healthy and fit. I tried 5k and 10k running, but I knew I wanted more. It was at this time I came across “Crossfit Stoney Creek and contacted Lee and Lorna to set up my first visit and I haven’t stopped since that first class. For me, I have become a true believer and addicted to my Crossfit training. The one thing I love about Crossfit Stoney Creek; it is like we are all one big family. Everyone is an individual, but we all come together and understand the effort, the frustrations and the commitment it takes; we understand the rewards and the feeling we get when we continue to progress, grow and succeed. Every day is an accomplishment one way or the other. Every single person helps to push one another in order to do their best and you really feel the support from not just our trainers, but others training in the gym. I’ve been doing crossfit for 5 months now and attend classes 5-6 days a week because I want to…I love it! I was able to replace 3 hours a day of training on the ice for one sport and convert it to one hour a day of training in the gym and I have never felt better. Before crossfit I never lifted a barbell in my life and it was a whole new world for me. Crossfit Stoney Creek has really changed my life in ways that I can’t explain….. I’m stronger, healthier and if anything much more confident in myself. In skating, I was being told that I needed to lose weight especially during the teen / growing years and mentally it can take a toll on you and your self esteem. Worrying about what size you are can really put you in a negative frame of mind. Feeling that way in life is not productive physically, mentally or emotionally. Now I feel much better, more confident, secure and happy about myself and who I am. My strength is beautiful now. When I first came I was a little heavier and softer than what I wanted to be. I use to weigh 115 when skating competitively , then 130 before i joined CFSC and now I’m a confident 121IBS. I realized I wanted my weights to increase so with that I knew that I had to put on a little bit of weight. I really took it upon myself to work with a better diet in order to fuel my body properly and do my best out of my workouts. With that I became leaner much faster. It took me a while to realize that being healthy isn’t this size 2 and that working out isn’t about trying to get skinny; it’s about getting stronger …and kicking ass! Lee and Lorna have helped me a lot with eating right, getting me on track mentally and encouraging me every day I show up at Crossfit Stoney Creek; they are a huge part of this change in my life, and I can’t thank them enough! It’s really crazy to see the progress from day 1 when I was only using the 35IB bar for WOD’S, but now I’m up to 85IB and when I use to dead lift 140IB, I now can dead lift 245IB! Taking someone basically from scratch, no background for this kind of training or exercise and help them to feel the best they can be , is what CFSC is all about. The results are amazing, and I found what I was looking for when it comes to being an athlete again, being healthy and just a better me all round. When you are feeling this great about yourself, you feel like you can handle anything. Crossfit is a lifestyle now for me and I don’t look back any longer with regrets of what I didn’t accomplish…I only look ahead at what great things are to come and what I can accomplish in my life.
